Frequently Asked Questions
Item condition for collectibles is very subjective. We are your eyes while you decide whether to purchase an item, and we take that job seriously. We take a lot of time describing any condition issues we see so that you can make an informed decision about your purchase, just as if you were inspecting it yourself.
We begin our description with broad categories to summarize condition for you at a glance. Here is a basic overview of their intended meaning:
- Factory Mint - Just as it came from the factory with no damage noted on inspection
- Near Mint - May have the tiniest of condition issues, such as eartip or hoof edge rubs, for example, but is beautiful overall
- Excellent - May have one or more condition issues, but still displays beautifully
- Very Good - May have several rubs or other issues, but no "fatal" flaws like breaks
- Good / Body - Serious condition issues that make the model most suitable for play or customizing
The condition category is then followed by a detailed report. We list every rub, chip, break, yellowing and repair that we see.
We don't describe minor changes in detailing between models of the same release which occurred during production at the factory (i.e.: Smudged Appaloosa spot, slight masking slips, etc) unless they seriously affect displayability. We also don't mention models that don't stand on their own when that is a known flaw for a particular mold. It's generally accepted that some molds, like Black Beauty and the Tennessee Walker, may need assistance (or Museum Putty!) to stand.
Eleda personally inspects each and every item that is for sale on this site. She has been collecting model horses since the 1970's, so she generally has a good eye for condition. However, there's always the chance that she may miss something. We make no warranty that any model will be suitable for showing. All models are sold as-is. Please read their descriptions, inspect their photos and feel free to ask questions if you are unsure about an item's condition. We're always happy to answer questions, and we want our customers to love their new models!
This is such an important factor in shopping these days, that we've chosen the company we believe to be the most secure in the world to handle our data. Our host Shopify (NYSE: SHOP) is renowned for their high level of data security, and are certified PCI Level 1 compliant. In order to be certified to this level, they meet all six categories of compliance standards set out by the industry: Maintain a secure network, protect cardholder data, maintain a vulnerability management program, implement strong access control measures, maintain an information security policy, and regularly monitor and test their networks. No one at Triple Mountain ever sees identifiable payment card data, and customer information needed for shipping (name and address) are kept secure on Shopify's network. You'll notice that the url for every page of our site begins with https - The "s" signifies a secure site. To the left of the address bar, the little padlock will be displayed as locked the entire time you're on our site as well, which is another way you can easily tell that a site is secure.
We ship via USPS Priority or Parcel Post to the US, and via USPS Priority Mail International or First Class Mail to other destinations.
Shipping times to the Continental US are generally 2-7 days. International shipping times will vary, as will shipping to AK, HI, and APO addresses.
International buyers are welcome. We ship to most countries that are accepted by PayPal. Please be aware that your country may impose taxes, tariffs, or fees on your package. These are determined by your country's Customs Office, and cannot be predicted by us. All such fees are the buyer's responsibility. If you are concerned about import fees, you may want to contact your country's Customs Office before ordering. We mark all items as Merchandise on Customs forms. International shipments cannot be insured. By purchasing from our website, you agree to hold Triple Mountain Model Horses harmless for any loss or damage that occurs during shipping.
Damages during shipping
We pack all items well to help insure their safe arrival. If you receive a package that has been damaged, please open it in front of your carrier, save all packaging and paperwork, and file a damage claim with the carrier.
To reduce our environmental footprint, we work with a large corporate office in the area to re-use packing materials that come into them. We use recycled boxes whenever possible, from this office and from a local convenience store, as well as recycled packing peanuts and bubble wrap. We ask that you please re-use or recycle packing materials when you receive them. Most UPS and Fedex stores will take your packing materials to re-use.
As a special service for our customers in the US and Canada (other countries to be added as requested), we offer our Hold Program. The Hold Program is designed to save our regular customers money on shipping. Instead of paying to ship each order individually, the Hold Program allows you to order several times and pay for shipping once!
Here's how it works:
- Place your order online as usual, choosing "Hold Program" as the shipping option.
- You'll pay just for your items, not for shipping at the time of order.
- We'll place your purchases on our special Hold Shelves, tagged with your name.
- You may continue to place orders over the next few weeks or months, and we'll add them to your "Hold Herd."
- When you're ready for everything to ship, contact us. We'll pack your herd, then send you a PayPal invoice for the total shipping cost (You can pay it by credit, debit or PayPal account). Your herd will ship once the invoice is paid, and you can begin another herd anytime!
We've been quietly offering this program to select regular customers since 2012, and it's cumulatively saved them thousands of dollars in shipping. Several customers have an ongoing Hold Herd - They collect model purchases over a few weeks or months, have us ship them, and start on their next herd. It's working so well, in fact, that we're thrilled to be able to offer this service to all customers now! The "Hold Program" shipping option currently only shows up for US and Canadian customers, but if there's interest from customers elsewhere, contact us and we'll be happy to add your country.
Now for the boring legal stuff:
Customer must take delivery of their Hold Collection within 6 months of the date the first model was held. If you haven't requested shipping by then, we will make an effort to contact you using the email listed in your Triple Mountain account to let you know of the upcoming deadline. If we are unable to reach you and/or the shipping invoice we generate at the 6-month mark goes unpaid for 14 days, purchases will be forfeit, ownership of items will revert back to Triple Mountain, and no refund shall be made. (We hope this never occurs, and will make efforts to contact you should you get close to the deadline, but have to include this provision for legal reasons.) After your Hold Herd ships, you may begin purchasing another Hold Herd anytime and the 6-month Hold Period will begin anew with your first purchase after the shipment.
We reserve the right to amend or discontinue this program at any time. Should we discontinue the program, or amend it in any way that would add to your costs, and you have a Hold Herd at the time, we will contact you by the email address listed in your Triple Mountain account at least 14 days in advance with the option to ship your current Herd. If you opt to leave the Herd on Hold as of the date of the policy change, or do not respond to the notice, the current Herd will become subject to the new policies on their inception date. Any purchases made after the date of policy change will be subject to the new policies as well. We reserve the right to correct errors in this and all policies at any time.

We offer a time payment program to help you budget for those bigger purchases!
To use the program, called “Lay-Buy powered by PayPal,” you will need a PayPal account. That’s the only catch, but means that the program fees are very small (less than 1%!) Down payment of 30% is required (can be more if you like, and the down payment can be paid with a credit card). Then you can choose to finish paying in 1, 2, or 3 monthly installments. Those installments must come out of a PayPal account… If you don’t yet have one, you will be guided through the easy process of setting one up. We love PayPal – They’ve proven to have better data security than any other payment processor.
Be aware that monthly payments are due on their due date, and missing any payment(s) will forfeit the items with no refund for completed payments. This is necessary to insure that models aren’t removed from our public site for extended periods and then not paid for, as we’re responsible to our consignors for selling their models in a timely manner. Please make sure you plan ahead to have payment money in your PayPal account prior to the payment dates.
To use the Lay-Buy program:
- Order your items as usual and proceed to checkout.
- Choose “Hold Program” as the shipping option.
- Choose “Lay-Buy powered by PayPal” as the payment option.
- Follow the instructions to set up your custom payment plan.
- Be aware that shipping is not charged at this time. You will be invoiced for actual shipping after your final payment is made. Once shipping is paid for, your order will ship right out.
Please Note: All of our consignment slots are currently full. We don't expect to have an opening until at least spring of 2017.
Have a collection you'd like to sell? We accept consignments ranging from a few models to entire collections. Consigning your models with us is an easy way to sell your collection: We do all the work for you! We are equipped to handle large quantities, and have handled collections of over 500 models for consignors.
Here's how consigning works:
- You ship us the models you wish to sell, along with a signed copy of our consignment contract.
- We inventory, photograph, and list them for sale on Triple Mountain Model Horses website. We also list some models on eBay to drive visitors to the site and increase visibility of your models.
- Unsold models remain your property throughout the process, and you can request them back at any time.
- Since we work on commission, we will work hard to get you the best price for each model. We have made thousands of dollars for our consignors!
