Black Beauty ~ The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere
Paul Revere's famous ride, as written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, became a rallying cry for American patriotism. Watching the old bell tower for the signal lanterns (One if by land, two if by sea), Paul galloped off through the countryside on a borrowed horse named Brown Beauty, famously warning, "The British are coming!"
It's apt then, that Breyer chose the galloping Black Beauty mold to represent Brown Beauty. This set, originally packaged in a window-front display box, includes the horse, rider in period clothing, saddle, and bridle (which was permanently attached with the bit running through the horse's mouth). The set was made in 2005 only, and was limited to 3500 pieces, so they don't often come up for sale. As one of Breyer's special high-end Limited Edition display-box sets, it was pricey right from Breyer, and is designed for serious collectors.
The horse is Near Mint with only a pinpoint eartip rub and a pinpoint rub on his left barrel! You have to look close to see both of them. He comes with his original double bridle which is made onto him with the bit going through his mouth, browband and cheek pieces that were made to look like they have stitching, and buckled reins. He features the most incredible shading this mold has ever gotten! Even those who aren't fans of this mold will find him handsome. He sports a neatly masked broken strip, bright whites, and tiny eye whites. He even stands well, but I still strongly recommend Museum Putty, as this mold is known for starting equine dominoes.
His rider is Factory Mint and ready for your set, show or diorama! He features articulate wrists for easy positioning and wears his entire original outfit, including brass "buttons" on his sleeves.
The COA scroll is Factory Mint and never unrolled. It has its original cardboard core inside to hold its shape and is tied with its original gold ribbon. The set's box is Near Mint condition with very minor wear. Box includes original plastic "blocking" and plastic-coated wire straps for holding horse in place. Horse, rider and scroll will be bubble wrapped for safe transport. What a beautiful set!
