Foaled in 1975, the chestnut stallion Affirmed quickly rose through the ranks of thoroughbred racing. He gained the reputation for starting like an explosion and continuing to power along straight to the finish line. Affirmed became only the 11th horse to win the Triple Crown as the 1978 winner of all three prestigious races. Racing fans had an exciting time with Affirmed and his arch-rival Alydar racing head-to-head in many races, with Affirmed winning 7 of the 10 times they met, but often by less than a length. His trainer, Laz Barrera, once said: "Affirmed is greater than Secretariat, or any Triple Crown winner, because only Affirmed had to face Alydar." That's high praise, indeed. At stud, he went on to sire over 80 Stakes winners.

Breyer honored Affirmed with a portrait model on the Cigar mold in 2003-2004. It is well-done, with body shading and his pretty star and stripe. While the Regular Run was done in a matte finish, only 1000 were made in glossy, They appear to have been mixed into the run, making them perhaps the first unofficial Treasure Hunt.
This fellow is Factory Mint with beautiful shading and a lovely glossy finish. He even comes with two (expired) NAN cards he won for a former owner. He stands well, but this mold is known to be tippy, so we recommend Museum Putty or a Horse Safety Rack to keep him safely upright.
