Orca calves are around 8.5 feet (2.6m) long at birth. They are born underwater, but, being mammals, are kept close to the surface by their mothers at first, so they can easily reach air to breathe. They also nurse milk from their mothers, just like all mammals, and grow quickly, showing curiosity and social skills from a young age.
