Family Arabian Mare, Woodgrain - Marney Walerius Collection!
The Family Arabian Mare was only made in Woograin from 1963-1967. Considered home decor, models made in Woodgrain were marketed as mantel or bookshelf pieces rather than toys. They didn't turn out to be overly popular at the time, though, which makes them even more sought-after today.
This sweet girl is Near Mint with only eartip/ear edge rubs, pinpoint eyelid rubs, a pinpoint rub on her right shoulder, and a slightly bent back left eartip. Her body is clean and beautiful, with some really neat graining and a couple of ovals in the pattern that look like cross-grained knots. She is a light version and is historically significant for having come from the collection of Marney Walerius, one of the founders of the model horse showing hobby. She wears Marney's sales tag, the writing of which was verified to be Marney's by Andrea Gurdon, "The Breyer History Diva." She even comes in the plastic bag Marney sold her in, which had a label attached... The glue on the label has dried up and the label has fallen off, but will be included. Other models from Marney's collection came to us in the same bags with the same labels. This is one of the best opportunities you may ever have to own such a special piece of Breyer history - She may well have been shown at one of the very first model horse shows ever!
