Chris Hess's iconic Five Gaiter mold was made in this bold chestnut from 1963 to 1986.  He features a honey-colored body and a mane and tail so dark, he's nearly a bay.  He wears an airbrushed bald face, four socks, and white ribbons with red Xs on them.

This fellow is  Near Mint - incredible for a super matte model of this era!  He has a pinpoint white speck on his right cheek, another on his left stifle, a tiny rub inside his right hock, a tiny place that missed getting painted under his tail, and a hairline across the front of his right hind cannon that "could" be a crack, but it feels perfectly stable and does not extend far around the sides.  He has a few shiny places in his finish, but he wears the super matte finish of the 1960s which usually is very fragile, so we're amazed by his condition!  He has no USA mark and does show the C.Hess engraving inside one hind leg.  He also wears the small size blue ribbon sticker, which has creasing and wear, but is over 90% intact.  These features date him to pre-1970.
