Pony of the Americas ~ Black Hand Bio Card
One of the most influential founding sires of the POA breed was Black Hand, a Leopard Appaloosa of pony height but horse temperament, named for the hand-shaped spot on his left flank. His sire was a Shetland Pony and his dam was an Arabian / Appaloosa cross - Black Hand seemed to gather the best from all of his ancestral genes to produce the beginnings of a breed that instantly became beloved by children (and adults) everywhere.
