Quarter Horse Mare, Bay
One of the most sought-after of Breyer molds, the G1 Stablemate Quarter Horse Mare is a Maureen Love sculpt, originally produced for Hagen-Renaker in ceramic. Breyer licensed the mold and produced it in plastic starting in 1976. Damage to their mold (and possibly licensing issues) has caused the Breyer mold to be discontinued, making all of the older pieces in high demand by collectors. The bay is a particularly tricky one to find, as they were only released as part of the Stablemates Stable Set from 1976-1980, and never sold by themselves. Finding one in any condition today is rewarding!
This girl is in Very Good to Excellent condition with a number of tiny rubs and a scattering of pinpoint ones. She's a gorgeous example of early Stablemate production, with flashing (plastic left from the molding process) under her chin and jaw, a smudge of body paint in one hind sock, and that overall "rough" appearance of a model that didn't get much sanding before painting. Her paint is rich, with subtle highlights and a semigloss finish.
