Midnight Sun was a leading sire of Tennessee Walking Horses and a two-time World Champion in his own right. In fact, only four horses outside of his bloodline have become World Champions since 1949!  He was born in 1940 and stood just under 16 hands high.  He was originally called Joe Lewis Wilson, but changed to the catchier name Midnight Sun, presumably because of his solid black color.  He was such a calm fellow that children were often given bareback rides on him so they could say they'd ridden a two-time World Grand Champion.  He enjoyed a retirement at stud until he passed away at age 25.  Even though Breyer's sculpt depicts him with a "Big Lick" stride, that is a trend that didn't develop until after his time, and Midnight Sun was actually shown in standard keg shoes.

Breyer's portrait model is solid black and sports white on red ribbons.  While most were made with black feet as well, a small amount were given grey/tan hooves.  We don't have any info from Breyer regarding a specific time period or quantity made this way, but they're definitely the harder version to find.  A couple of other black models (the Foundation Stallion and The Black Stallion) were also given these grey/tan mixed hooves for just a short time.

This fellow is in Excellent condition with a few tiny rubs down his right hind leg that should be easy to touch up, some small and tiny hoof edge rubs, and a few small areas of light scuffing (dullness) to his finish.  He displays beautifully with his semigloss finish and grey hooves.  He requires a prop to stand.  We recommend Museum Putty to help keep him safely upright.

This model was donated to our charity account for Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, and proceeds from its sale will help the shelter care for dogs and kitties in need.  Thanks for your support!
