The American Bison is a large, native species of grazing animal that can grow up to 11 feet long long and over 6 feet tall. While we often call the Buffalo, that name comes from their general similarity in appearance to the African water buffalo, to which they are not closely related. While no longer considered endangered, the American Bison's future remains uncertain, with only 20,000 members in the wild, split into small herds. They continue to need attention and protection so that future generations can be awed by the size and majesty of this symbol of the American West.
