Black Beauty ~ AA Omner

AA Omner is a horse that has inspired hope and courage for over 20 years.  This incredible Anglo-Arabian was a star in Endurance racing, where he logged over 900 miles during his long career.  But his courage and stamina while racing are only part of his amazing story.  It was at an elite race in Montana that he became colicky one evening, and race vets discovered a blockage that sent him and his owner to a veterinary hospital in Salt Lake City.  The resulting ultrasound discovered an enormous cancerous tumor on his kidney and blood tests prompted a vet to say he'd seen dead horses with better results.  It was deemed too late to operate, and Omner was sent home with a prognosis of only a few weeks to live.  And yet, live he did!  With love, feed supplements, acupuncture and the care of his equine brother, he not only lived, but healed!  The tumor began shrinking and his strength returned!  He was truly a miracle horse.

With veterinary approval, he returned to training the year after he was supposed to have died, and became a champion in endurance again!  He was inducted into the American Endurance Ride Conference Hall of Fame in 1997.  Then in 2001, Omner changed careers to bring home and courage to those who need it most: Those with physical challenges and disabilities.  His owner donated the champion to the National Ability Center's therapeutic riding program, where children and adults who struggle every day learn that they can overcome anything, just like Omner, who overcame terminal cancer to be there with them.

Breyer honored Omner with this portrait model in 2001-2002.  He wears his fleabitten grey coat, shaded muzzle and little pink snip.

This fellow is Near Mint with a few tiny grey hairline marks that could easily be smudged speckles, and mild age yellowing that you can reverse with a few days of sunbathing.  He features both grey and chestnut speckles and pretty face shading.  Like nearly all on this mold, he requires a prop to stand, and we recommend Museum Putty or a Horse Safety Rack to keep him safely upright.
