El Pastor was known as hard to handle when he was imported to the US as a youngster.  The Ratliff family purchased him straight from quarantine and it was the two young ladies of the family who worked on his training.  He became a beloved member of the family, and then a leading Paso Fino stallion in the world!  Among his many accolades, he was awarded:  Grand National Champion twice, National Champion 8 times, Reserve National Champ 7 times.  He didn't stop there - 21% of all of his offspring went on to become National or Reserve National Champs as well!  El Pastor lived to be 37 years old and was the first Paso to be featured in Breyer's "Just About Horses" magazine and the model for the very first Breyer Paso mold.

El Pastor's portrait model was the first Paso Fino release for Breyer.  He features El Pastor's softly shaded bay coat with two socks and a star.  He was only made from 1974-1981.

He is in Excellent condition with a scattering of tiny and pinpoint rubs and a few tiny marks.  He still displays well and is a sweet, early variation with a tiny snip.  We don't know if it was accidental or intentional (a sneaky bit of fun by a painter?), but the edges look fully authentic.  His face photo is shown on IDYB, making him a bit famous as well!
