Running Mare, Palomino - 1982 Montgomery Ward SR

The iconic Running Mare is beautiful as a golden palomino!  She was only produced in this color as a holiday Special Run for Montgomery Ward in 1982 and they are nearly impossible to find today.

This lovely lady is Near Mint but with an interesting factory flaw or story.  The left side of her bald face has sharp edges, appearing to have had some paint removed, but after close inspection, I am positive this was done at the factory.  The shine of the plastic is exactly the same the rest of her face, mane and tail, so this wasn't done with acetate after production, or sanded.  Instead, I think we can infer the rest of the story from the airbrush splutter of grey specks on her neck:  When shading her nostril on that side, the airbrush spluttered and got spots on her face and neck.  The painter thought quickly and wiped off the spots on her face (missing one in the tendon groove), knowing that the missing palomino paint there would just look like part of her bald face.  He/she didn't touch the ones on her neck, so we can see the story as it unfolded, giving us a fascinating look into the painting process, and giving her a story to tell!  Beyond this, and a couple of tiny airbrush splutter specks on her right flank and withers, she's Near Mint with just a couple of tiny hoof edge rubs.  She features soft highlights and bright whites, so she's in great shape AND a conversation piece!
