PJ's Carousel Collection is a vintage brand with loyal followers, beloved for the historic detailing and quality. They were produced in Newbern, Virginia. This is "PJ Flag," one of the very earliest models produced. He is done in the style of the famous carouselist Dentzel. I believe these early models are molded from pressed wood, as they have the weight and feel of carved wood horses. Most PJ models have a model name stamped on the base bottom in ink, but this guy was made before that process began. He sports a bald eagle-themed saddle with a furled American flag on the outside. He features a brass pole with a brass-colored ring on top and solid hardwood base with his name plaque.
He is Near Mint with just a bit of dust. The rubber ring around his pole positioned under his belly, that allows you to raise him above his platform is beginning to crack with age. Otherwise, he is like new, with antiquing and a bit of gold brushed over his eagle. His pole and base are also like new, with the plaque attached. He even has his original price tag and hang tag (discolored from age). Hang tag used to be held on with an elastic, but the elastic was removed to keep it from sticking to him as it aged.
He was purchased new by Eleda in January, 1989. He is such a hard-to-find piece that he's not even shown on most lists of PJ horses.
