It's hard to overstate the effect Cheryl White had on racing... and other aspects of life and culture as well. She was the first Black female jockey in America at age seventeen, and the first to ever win a race, which she won aboard the beautiful chestnut Jetolara, who was bread and trained by her father Raymond. Over the course of her career, she won more than 750 races and became in high demand by trainers... When folks heard she'd be in town for a race, the calls started coming in, asking her to ride their horses, because of her skill and reputation as a jockey. Being a pioneer is never easy, and Cheryl endured a lot, but through her courage, determination, and skills, she became an inspiration to people across the country.
This special tribute set includes a portrait rider of Cheryl, portrait of Jetolara, and their race tack, as well as a paperback copy of The Jockey & Her Horse, which tells Cheryl's story. This set was personally approved by Cheryl's relatives as a fitting tribute to this ground-breaking woman.
