This is a beautiful piece of handcrafted, signed art from the Southwestern USA. This leather shield, or dreamcatcher, is made of suede strung over a 9" hoop, and hand-painted with a stylized version of "The End of the Trail" image, in turquoise and terra cotta colors. Attached to the front are a stone arrowhead and a shard of ancient pottery - A connection from present day to the ancestors.
Hanging from a concho are two beaded and feathered tassels, and when hung, the entire piece is approximately 30" long. A paper tag states that they use "original pottery shards dating from 900-1200 A.D. No two shards are alike." The shield is signed on the back "KT/SFP." I don't know its original origins, but it was given to me (Eleda) as a gift by a friend in the early 1990s. It has hung here ever since, and now it is ready to bring awe to someone else.
The feathers are showing their age, getting thin and dusty looking, but otherwise the shield shows no damage. It's a fascinating piece of art and history combined, and a lovely, unique piece for your collection!
