We have lamented Breyer's plastic bases for years: They break under the slightest pressure, sometimes before they even come out of the box. They warp with time and heat and become wobbly, leaving your horses at risk for toppling over and getting damaged. Finally, we have a solution!
If you're still using an original base, we recommend tucking it away to keep it safe and using one of these for show and display instead. If your base has already broken, you'll really appreciate the rugged, elegant quality of these! These will be the only replacement bases you'll ever need! They will last a lifetime and look good doing it.
These beautiful metal bases are made from heavy stainless steel with a plastic tang holder, and are specifically designed to fit Breyer's models that have a single hoof touching the ground with a metal tang sticking out of it, like Smarty Jones, Ruffian, and the Show Jumping Warmblood.
They were designed and handcrafted one-at-a-time by a professional machinist in Maine, USA. They are rust resistant and polished for a sleek look under your model. We tested them on several models and they work beautifully, holding them securely while not distracting from them. The horse easily lifts out of the tang holder so you can tack him up or rearrange, but stands securely when inserted. They are elegant for showing, but also designed to be flat (other than the small tang holder) so that you could even place them under sand or a cloth for diorama photos.
Note: The tang holder on this first batch is centered on the base, which works very well for Smarty Jones and Ruffian, but because of his hoof placement, the SJW will be a little off-center on it, but still be stable.
