Black Bear, Standing
Black Bear, Standing
Low stock: 2 left
Black bears are commonly found in parts of North America, including around Triple Mountain. They are one of very few non-ape mammals that can stand and walk (short distances) on their hind legs. One male bear who had injured a front paw, became an internet sensation after teaching himself to walk almost exclusively on his hind legs. Smart as well as powerful, a female not far from us in North Conway, NH, learned how to open car door handles at the National Park and passed on that skill to her cubs. Hikers are warned to lock their cars and keep food out of sight. They are clever and resourceful animals, for sure!
