This pretty pony is modern Chinese cloisonne. Cloisonne pieces are made of metal (usually brass or copper) with thin wires welded on to create designs. Enamel is then hand-painted into each segmented space, then the whole thing is fired in a kiln and then polished. Gold paint (sometimes real gold leaf) is often added for bright, metallic accents. The result is a beautiful, colorful, one-of-a-kind, hand-colored figurine.
This colorful fellow is He is Near Mint with just some patina forming inside his vent hold and under his hooves, which indicate his age. He was probably made closer to mid-20th Century than the 21st Century. He features a cinnabar-red base color with dragon scales, topped with cobalt and sky blue scroll-work accented with jade green. He wears a molded-on saddle in sky blue with a multi-color lotus blossom design.
