Th Nonius breed takes its name from its founding sire, who, to differentiate him from the whole breed, is now referred to as Nonius Senior.  While Nonius Senior was not a good-looking horse, he was extremely hardy, with solid bone, great endurance and was an easy keeper.  He was bred to better looking mares, and with a well-managed line-breeding program, the Hungarian State Stud produced a consistent, athletic and strong breed for driving and riding.  Nonius Horses all have dark coats, either black, brown, or dark bay, with minimal or no white markings, creating a beautiful driving horse that excels in Combined Driving competitions.  Because they are so carefully bred and the stud book is closed, only around 450 mares and 80 stallions are in the breeding pool today, making the Nonius a rare breed.

These are not available to US retailers through Breyer, so we've purchased them from an international retailer and are having them shipped to us in the US.  Because of this, they cost us more to procure for you than ones we can order from Breyer, hence their slightly higher price.  We may be the only retailer in the US carrying them, and are happy we could get some for you!

These are new inventory, straight from the manufacturer to our store.
