Ruffian is one of the most famous racing mares of all time. She won ten consecutive races as a two- and three-year-old. Her stellar career was sadly cut short by a fatal injury during a match race with Kentucky Derby winner Foolish Pleasure, and efforts to save her were unsuccessful. She was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, and has been immortalized with a movie and this lovely sculpt by Maureen Love.

Breyer's original release of Ruffian was only available from 1977-1990, and shows off her left hind sock and star.
This lady is Factory Mint with some overspray in her star and sock as usual. She features a smooth coat with a shinier mane, tail, and lower legs, that make her appear to be in motion. She even comes with her original box. Her box has damage (creasing, tears) along the top, but protects her well, and is the hard-to-find diagonal-walled version that was only used for a very few years. Since she had been released for several years before this box came out, there are far fewer with this box style than with the cardboard "hat box" style packaging. That makes her a treasure for a packaging collector.
