Most people don't realize that Breyer began making tack and accessories for their models as early at 1972. We're not counting the molded plastic tack that came with Western Horses, etc., but tack sold by itself, scaled to fit most of their Traditional series models. This saddle is an example of one of Breyer's earliest tack items.
This Breyer saddle was made from 1972-1978. It is made of genuine, thick leather with attention to all the details people had in their real saddles: Metal front and rear cinch rings, D-rings for accessories, floral tooling, tapaderos over the stirrups, a metal horn, and even woven latigo straps.
This saddle is This saddle would rate as Near Mint if the end of the cinch strap didn't tear when it came off the horse it rode here on. I have superglued it back on, but you'll see the dark stripe of glue and that hole won't be strong enough to support any cinch pressure. Beyond that small repair, this saddle is gorgeous! It may not be accurately constructed, but for Breyer's very first Western saddle, it certainly impresses. The floral tooling alone makes this a piece of Breyer art. It also features real, braided latigo straps, faux sheepskin underside, latigo straps on the stirrup tapaderos, and an intact breast collar with tooling and metal buckles. This piece will even impress in a Collector's Class, so if you love Breyer history, don't hesitate on this one!
[Horse and saddle stand not included.]
This model was donated to our charity account for Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, and proceeds from its sale will help the shelter care for dogs and kitties in need. Thanks for your support!
