Based on the countdown ribbon my grandmother made for me when I was a child, these re-usable Advent calendars are so much fun, and more economical than buying a new branded calendar every year!
Each is made from a green felt ribbon over three feet (over a meter) long, with 24 red and silver ribbons to tie treats onto, a fun poem at the top, and a colorful jingle bell (color may vary) at the bottom.
Simply choose some lightweight treats and tie one onto each ribbon. Each day, your loved one gets to take off the highest treat, making their way closer to Christmas in a fun way. Silver ribbons mark the 3-week, 2-week, and 1-week til Christmas dates to build the excitement even more.
Treat ideas: Depending on who you're giving it to, kids love candies tied onto the ribbons, or Mini Whinnies or Pocket Box blind bags (Punch a hole in one corner of the package for easy tying). Adults love all of those, or perhaps lottery scratch tickets, little scrolls containing love notes... There are lots of possibilities! Photos show the ribbon with several treat ideas. When the season is over, the ribbon can be rolled up and put away to use every year with new treats. It's a tradition your whole family will look forward to!
